How can an organisation that worships a carpenter’s son have so much gold laying about?

The Jesus you read about in the bible seemed pretty humble. He did get pretty wound up about some people trading in a temple.

So why do we need all the gold? I really don’t get it. On one side you’ve got mangers, carpentry, the meek inheriting the earth etc and then you go into a church and you’ve got gold all over the place.
Maybe the church is keeping it for us because they know it won’t make us happy?
BTW: anyone questioning the resources of the church, the vatican alone took 250M USD in 2003 in revenue.
